Google Password Manager now allows password sharing, albeit limited to family members. In the company's support document, this innovation is explained with the following statements: “Thanks to this new feature, you can now securely share your passwords with your family group in Password Manager. When you share a password, your family members will receive a copy of the password ready to use in the app.”
The company first announced this feature in February 2024 as part of Safer Internet Day, but is finally rolling it out as part of the May 2024 Google Play Services update v24.20. Password sharing is strictly limited to members of the family group. Therefore, users need to create a family group and add members to this group.
Those with a family group will be able to see the “share” button as an option in Google's Password Manager. However, Android Authority site stated that the feature may not be enabled in the desktop version of Chrome yet.
Google also shared a sample usage scenario
The company lists scenarios such as “two members of a family coordinating daily care through a single account, or a child allowing one parent to access schoolwork” as possible use cases.
