Vivo has officially confirmed that it will introduce its new flagship phone family, the X500 series, in China in September. There will be three models in the series: Vivo X500, X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max. Thus, the company will move directly to the X500 series without using the X400 naming after the existing X300 family. The first information shared by Vivo shows that the camera system and especially the video shooting capabilities will be significantly improved in the X500 family. Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao announced that the new series has been prepared with comprehensive innovations on the imaging side and special emphasis is placed on video. In its high-end models, the company aims to preserve more details and obtain more stable videos in different light conditions, rather than just improving photo quality. In this direction, new hardware will be used in the sensor, HDR video and optical image stabilization system. The announced technical features suggest that the X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max will be the standout models of the series in terms of camera.
New sensor with 17EV dynamic range will be used in Vivo X500 Pro models
The main camera of the X500 Pro models will feature a new system called Zeiss Super Dynamic. Co-identified by Vivo’s BluePrint imaging team and Sony, the camera is based on the new BluePrint Guangyu 900 sensor. While the 1/1.28 inch sensor offers 50 megapixel resolution, high dynamic range is one of the main areas of development. The X500 Pro series will support slow-motion video recording at 240 frames per second at 4K resolution. In addition, 4K 120 fps HDR video shooting and direct HDR output are also among the supported features. While 4K 240 fps support seems remarkable, especially for users who want to slow down moving scenes in high resolution, the impact of this recording format on storage space and heat management will be clearer when the phones become available.
Vivo also focuses specifically on the stabilization system in video shooting. It is stated that the main camera will have a 3-degree OIS movement range and offer gimbal-level image stabilization. In addition, the camera system will also feature professional stabilization support at CIPA 7.0 level. The company aims to enable users to record more stable images while walking or moving without carrying a separate gimbal. The fact that the X500 Pro Max model is particularly highlighted in the statements about the 3-degree OIS system also indicates that there may be some differences between the camera hardware of the three phones.
