New smart aquarium with color screen and automatic feeding from Xiaomi

Xiaomi opened the Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro model, for which it started the pre-order process last week, to crowdfunding in China. The campaign carried out through Xiaomi Youpin will continue until August 31, and the product will be offered for 599 yuan during this period, approximately 4 thousand 320 TL at the current exchange rate. Among the prominent changes of the new model compared to the previous Mijia Smart Fish Tank is a more comprehensive water circulation and filtering system. In addition, the 1.47-inch color LCD screen placed on the front of the aquarium allows basic information to be followed without the need for a phone application. Automatic feeding, remote management and voice command support also expand connectivity with Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem.

The water circulation system of Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro passes water through different filter materials in a certain order. According to the information provided by Xiaomi, this structure aims to reduce the possibility of dirt passing through without being filtered due to backflow of water or areas with poor circulation. A U-shaped water path was preferred in the biological filter cartridge used in the system. Thus, while the distance the water travels in the filter increases, the contact time of beneficial bacteria with the water also increases. The manufacturer states that this design increases biological treatment efficiency.

There is also an additional filter box in the filtering section with separated layers. The first stage captures larger debris such as fish waste and uneaten food, while several subsequent layers of filter cotton capture smaller particles. A structure that will facilitate the evacuation of the collected remains has also been included in the system. This arrangement aims to facilitate the management of waste accumulation in the filter, especially when the aquarium operates for a long time. However, the multi-layer structure does not completely eliminate the need for maintenance and filter materials will still need to be checked at regular intervals.

There is a multifunctional water inlet reservoir at the top of the filters. The multi-stage flow direction design ensures a more even distribution of water over the filters. There is also a 5W, water-resistant expansion port on the chamber. By removing this section, users can add compatible accessories such as a UV lamp or heating rod without changing the layout of other parts of the system. This modular approach can make it easier to adapt the system to the needs of different fish species or the conditions of the aquarium’s environment.

The water pump uses an all-copper, four-pole and brushless motor. The engine, supported by circular silicon steel plates with low magnetic loss, is aimed to provide stronger water flow. Xiaomi has also enlarged the inlet grille, impeller channel and the space in the pump chamber to reduce the possibility of dirt and particles clogging the pump. The low-resistance ceramic shaft, sound insulation cotton and fully enclosed motor design aim to limit the noise that may occur during operation. Considering the use of the aquarium in living spaces, reducing pump noise becomes a noteworthy detail as much as technical power in terms of daily use.

On the front of Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro 1.47 inch color LCD screenIn addition to water temperature, it shows the operating status of connected equipment and system warnings. This way, users don’t have to open the phone app every time for basic controls. An automatic feeding system is also offered with the aquarium, and this system can operate in manual or smart mode. When a problem is detected, a notification is sent to the phone via the Xiaomi Home application. The combination of physical display and mobile notifications makes it easier to quickly check the temperature or equipment status.

Feeding can be done remotely via the Xiaomi Home application, as well as the settings of the water pump can be changed and the temperature can be monitored. The option that allows certain systems in the aquarium to automatically shut down when the lid is opened can also be set via the application. In addition, thanks to Xiao Ai voice assistant support, the lighting can be turned on and off with voice command. The system also takes into account how long the aquarium has been running and the type and number of fish entered by the user. In line with this data, lighting, filtering and general working order can be adjusted automatically.

While Mijia Smart Fish Tank 2 Pro maintains the basic automation approach of the first Mijia Smart Fish Tank model, it brings more comprehensive features on the filtering and direct information access side. In particular, the LCD screen makes a practical difference in daily use as it allows you to see the temperature and system status without resorting to the application. The biological filter using a longer water path and the expandable inlet chamber also offer a more flexible structure in terms of maintenance and customization compared to the previous model. However, advanced filtration and automation features do not eliminate the need for regular aquarium maintenance and monitoring water conditions suitable for the fish species. There is no shared information about whether the model, which is currently in the crowdfunding phase in China via Xiaomi Youpin, will be available for sale in other markets.
