Samsung launches world’s first 60TB SSD

Samsung has announced a world first with its 60TB capacity Solid State Drive (SSD). This new SSD, codenamed PM1743, is designed specifically to meet the high storage needs of corporate users.

Samsung has managed to get one step ahead of its competitors by almost doubling the SSD capacity, which was previously limited to 32 TB. The PM1743 attracts attention with its 61.44 TB storage capacity.

PM1743 uses Samsung’s own 176-layer 7th Generation V-NAND (3D NAND) QLC memory technology. This technology offers impressive performance values ​​in addition to high capacity. The SSD can reach sequential read speeds of 7.2 GB/s and sequential write speeds of 2.0 GB/s. It also stands out with its 1,600,000 random reads per second and 110,000 random write IOPS values.

The PM1743 is also ambitious about durability, with a five-year full disk write per day (DWPD) rating of 0.26. This feature is especially important for corporate users with intensive data processing needs.

Samsung offers the PM1743 in U.2 and PCIe 4.0 x4 form factors to suit different system requirements. Additionally, an E3.S version with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface is available for systems requiring high storage density.

There is no official statement yet about the price and power consumption of this new SSD, but it is known that products with similar specifications are priced around $7,000.

Following Samsung’s move, other major players in the industry are expected to take action to develop products with similar capacities. Competitors such as Kioxia, Micron, and SK Hynix have yet to launch SSDs in the 60TB class.
