Samsung doesn’t yet offer satellite communication support on its smartphones. But that could change soon. According to Android Authority, the company could start offering satellite communication support on some of its Galaxy phones this year.
News that Samsung would offer satellite communication first came to the agenda before the Galaxy S23 series was introduced. However, despite the Galaxy S24 series being introduced, no steps have been taken in this direction yet. The Android Authority site, which examined the APK of Samsung’s Phone and Messages applications, revealed references to satellite communication in some code sequences.
These codes indicate that Samsung is preparing a much-anticipated feature for its Galaxy devices. Perhaps the company will bring satellite feature support directly to some system apps. However, it seems that this will probably be possible with the help of Google Messages.
It appears that Samsung’s Messages app will be redirected to Google Messages for satellite features in certain scenarios. In times of need, messages can be sent to friends, family, or emergency contacts via Google Messages.
Samsung lags behind rivals in satellite communications
The South Korean company has been lagging behind its rivals in satellite communications, a feature that has been available on flagship phones from companies like Apple, Google, Honor and Huawei for some time now.
