Oppo Find X9 Ultra’s 10x periscope camera revealed

Leaks about Oppo Find X9 Ultra continue to increase. Official technical details have not yet been shared by the company for the smartphone, which is expected to be introduced in China and global markets. Despite this, reliable leak sources indicate that the device may offer remarkable innovations, especially on the camera side. The latest information focuses on the model’s periscope telephoto camera, which offers 10 times optical zoom. These leaks show that the importance the Find X series attaches to photo and video performance continues in the new model.

According to information shared by China-based leak source Digital Chat Station, the 10x periscope telephoto camera on the Oppo Find X9 Ultra will have an f / 3.5 aperture. This value can improve photo quality by allowing more light to be collected, especially in low light conditions. Although periscope lenses can often be limited in low light performance due to their narrow aperture values, the f/3.5 aperture in question has the potential to significantly reduce this limitation. Despite this, how such hardware advantages will yield results in real usage scenarios will be evaluated together with software optimizations.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra will carry an advanced periscope telephoto system

According to leaks, Find X9 Ultra’s 10x periscope telephoto camera may attract attention not only with its aperture value but also with its sensor technology. According to Digital Chat Station’s claim, the periscope telephoto system to be included in the device is designed to eliminate the need for the use of an external teleconverter lens. This approach points to a different optical scheme that aims to preserve image quality at high zoom levels on smartphones.

In terms of comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has long stood out as one of the few models that offer a periscope camera with 10x optical zoom. The 10x periscope telephoto camera on the S23 Ultra had an aperture of f/4.9. Despite this, Oppo’s claimed f/3.5 aperture could theoretically allow for more light intake. Depending on the leak source, this difference can correspond to approximately three times higher light penetration.

The information shared about the camera system of Find X9 Ultra is not limited to the 10x telephoto lens. The device is expected to have a total of four sensors in the rear camera setup. These may include a 200-megapixel main camera, a 200-megapixel 3x periscope telephoto lens, a 50-megapixel periscope camera that offers 10x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor. This structure aims to offer more flexible shooting options at different focal lengths.

On the other hand, it is stated that such an advanced camera system may also have effects on the physical design. Real photos that recently leaked to the internet show that there is a very prominent and thick camera module on the back of the device. Considering the large sensors and periscope lens mechanism, the increased camera protrusion does not seem surprising from a technical perspective. In addition to all this, Oppo’s ongoing camera collaboration with Hasselblad is expected to continue in the new model. This collaboration can provide different improvements, especially in color calibration and image processing.
