Uncertainty in One UI 8.5 update: Beta process is getting longer

One UI 8.5, the new version of Samsung’s Android-based interface, was introduced in February with the Galaxy S26 series. Despite this, while the update was expected to be rolled out to older Galaxy devices in March, users have only encountered successive beta versions. Although early expectations point to a faster deployment, recent developments reveal that the stable version is not yet ready. Despite this, it is noteworthy that the testing process took longer than planned. On the other hand, users demand that the stable version be presented without delay, especially for flagship models.

A leak shared on social media platform X revealed new details about the beta schedule planned for One UI 8.5. Accordingly, it is stated that the Galaxy S25 series will receive at least two additional beta updates during April. In addition, two beta versions are planned for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 models. On the foldable phone side, it is stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 models will receive at least one beta update. In addition to all this, it is noteworthy that there is no clear date for the stable version yet.

Why is the One UI 8.5 beta process taking longer?

According to the leaked schedule, the ninth beta version for the Galaxy S25 series is expected to be released soon, and the tenth beta version is expected to be released in the third week of April. Despite this, an exact date is not shared as to when the stable version will be available. While it is stated that the Galaxy S24 series will receive two beta updates on April 9 and April 20, the first beta for the Galaxy S23 series is planned for April 9 and the second beta for April 23. In addition, it is stated that foldable models will also receive a new beta version on April 9.

Although it has been reported that there are no serious bugs in the latest beta versions, Samsung’s decision to extend the testing process draws attention. This suggests that the company is taking a more cautious approach to software stability. Despite this, some users state that the current beta version is already stable enough for daily use. Still, it appears that Samsung wants to conduct more extensive testing across different device segments before moving on to wide-scale distribution.

On the other hand, it is known that One UI 8.5 is not limited to performance improvements only, but also offers various optimizations and new features in the interface. In addition, it is stated that additional regulations are being considered to make some artificial intelligence-supported functions work more efficiently. Although such improvements partially explain the length of the beta process, they do not fully meet the expectations on the user side.

Looking at Samsung’s previous update policies, similar delays are not uncommon. Despite this, it is known that the company generally aims to offer more stable and error-free versions. Although this approach may lead to criticism in the short term, it stands out as an element that directly affects the user experience in the long term.
