Xiaomi 16 may come with periscope telephoto lens

Xiaomi’s flagship model, Xiaomi 16, can finally be equipped with a periscope telephoto lens. This long-awaited feature could help the device gain a stronger position in the premium smartphone market by increasing its camera capabilities.

According to the information shared by popular technology leak source Smart Pikachu; Xiaomi plans to integrate this advanced camera technology in its new device. This feature can correct a deficiency not found in the Xiaomi 15 and enable the new model to offer a much more assertive camera experience. The lack of a periscope lens on the Xiaomi 15 was an element that limited the zoom capabilities of the device and caused disappointment among users.

Integrating periscope lens technology into Xiaomi 16 can significantly increase the optical zoom capability of the device. These lenses bend the light path by 90 degrees, providing longer-range zoom while avoiding compromising image quality. This feature offers a great advantage, especially for users who want to take detailed and clear photos of distant objects. Periscope lenses have become commonplace in today’s high-end smartphones, and Xiaomi is expected to keep up with this trend.

Xiaomi 16 may come with a more compact screen

In addition to these innovations on the camera side of the device, it is claimed that Xiaomi 16 will have a more compact screen size. The 6.36-inch screen size has remained popular among users since the Xiaomi 13 series. This smaller form factor remains an attractive option, especially for those looking for a pocket-friendly phone.

Xiaomi 16 is expected to improve the powerful features of its predecessor, Xiaomi 15. Xiaomi 15 attracted attention with its 1.5K AMOLED flat TCL C8 LTPO screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and 4610 mAh battery. In addition, the 50 MP triple camera system with Leica optics enabled the device to take successful photos in various light conditions. Xiaomi 16 aims to meet users’ expectations by taking these features even further.

On the other hand, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, another notable model of Xiaomi, is expected to be introduced in February after the 2025 Chinese New Year. The device, which is stated to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and run Android 15-based HyperOS 2, will have a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED screen and 120Hz refresh rate. It will also come with a quad camera system consisting of 50 MP + 50 MP + 50 MP + 200 MP sensors and a 6000 mAh battery.
