Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 16 series in September. Even the fact that Apple Intelligence will be ready in October has not changed the company’s plans. While the release schedule continues, it has been stated that Samsung and LG have started production of the display panels to be used in the new iPhones.
According to South Korean sources, Apple has ordered 80 million panels from Samsung and 43 million from LG. The company’s shipment target for its new iPhones this year is estimated at around 90 million. This means Apple has ordered about 30 percent more panels than its target.
News from the supply chain confirms that both Samsung and LG are currently producing panels in line with the volume of orders they normally order, underlining that Apple’s large order will positively impact both companies’ bottom lines.
It is believed that the iPhone 16 series will be the first models to come with Apple Intelligence in the supply chain and therefore will persuade many people to buy a new iPhone. It is stated that this persuasion will return as “tremendous demand”.
LG will increase its display panel supply by about 10 million compared to last year, taking more than 30 percent of the pie shared with Samsung. It is also said that LG has carried out its production schedule without delay for the first time this year. This is also expected to improve production performance.
In 2022 and 2023, LG’s delays in starting mass production of iPhone OLED panels led to Samsung being the sole supplier of the first batch during the launch period.
Samsung is making the majority of the panels for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
There is no change in the capacity of Samsung’s production for Apple. However, Samsung has a larger share of the panels for the more expensive Pro and Pro Max models. Therefore, Samsung’s revenues are also expected to increase. It is stated that 60 percent of the orders that Samsung will supply are iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max panels.
