Philips’ new audio range brings back iconic 80s style

As Philips celebrates its centenary in audio technologies, it announced its new product series that combines nostalgia with modern hardware. This collection, called “Moving Sound”, is inspired by the striking and bright color palette of the 1980s. While the designs of brands such as Sony and Philips, which were dominated by yellow tones, stood out at that time, the Philips Moving Sound series reinterprets this aesthetic approach with today’s technology. In addition, it seems that the products meet current expectations not only visually but also in terms of technical features.

There are two different wireless speaker models in the series, and both devices are equipped with Bluetooth 5.5 and Auracast support. In addition, thanks to the IP67 certification, water and dust resistance is offered, which shows that the products are suitable for outdoor use. Although there is no direct return to the old cassette player era, it is noteworthy that the LCD screens of the devices include animations that resemble rotating cassette reels. In addition, neon-colored keys and multi-colored LED lighting are among the elements that strengthen the characteristic look of the 80s.

Philips Moving Sound series speaker and headphone features

Positioned as the more powerful speaker of the series, the Tube model offers 140W sound output. This power is supported by two 5-inch woofers, two tweeters and passive radiators. Despite this, it is stated that the device maintains its portable structure and offers up to 24 hours of battery life. The more compact Roller model has a power capacity of 60W. However, it provides an advantage in terms of portability thanks to its smaller size. While the similar design language is maintained in both models, options are offered according to the different needs of the users.

In addition, the Moving Sound collection is not limited to speakers only. The over-ear wireless headphone called Ringo Duo is visually similar to the models offered with portable cassette players in the past. However, modern connection options include Bluetooth and USB-C support. Equipped with 40 mm drivers, this model is designed to meet daily use needs with replaceable ear cushions and up to 26 hours of battery life.

On the other hand, another product in the series, wireless in-ear headphones, appeals to more current usage scenarios. Equipped with six microphones, this model aims to both active noise cancellation and improve call quality. Despite this, battery performance is also remarkable; With ANC turned off, a total usage time of up to 42 hours is offered. The animated screen on the top of the charging box stands out as one of the details that completes the general design concept of the series.
