Microsoft will remove the Paint 3D app, which it once offered with great hopes, from the Microsoft Store at the end of this year and will no longer support it. Released in 2017 with Windows 10, Paint 3D was introduced as a product of the period when Microsoft focused on content creators. In fact, it was planned to replace the classic MS Paint app for a while.
Microsoft’s support note on the issue states, “The Paint 3D app will be deprecated and removed from the Microsoft Store on November 4, 2024.” Existing users of the app will see a warning banner in the app about the end of support. Microsoft recommends users who need to view 3D content to install the 3D Viewer app.
Microsoft focuses on Paint app in Windows 11
The removal of Paint 3D is the latest example of Microsoft’s shifts across Windows features and apps over time. The company has now shifted its focus to the existing Paint app in Windows 11. That app is being updated with some key Adobe Photoshop features and AI-powered innovations. These improvements make Paint even more capable, allowing it to stand out as a tool that can better serve users’ creative needs.
By removing Paint 3D, Microsoft aims to deliver a more consistent and focused user experience across the Windows ecosystem. This process includes removing not just Paint 3D but also other features, such as Windows Mixed Reality last year and the end of Microsoft Teams integration in Windows 11. The company also plans to end Android app support for Windows 11 in 2024.
