Meta is testing messaging features for Threads

Meta is preparing for an important innovation for Threads, whose number of users exceeds 130 million. The lack of a messaging feature stands out as one of the most important shortcomings of the platform. Meta seems to have taken action to fill this gap.

The company is testing new features that are essentially Instagram's inbox but make it possible to create new messages via Threads. The feature in question has already been seen by some Threads users. In a statement made by a company spokesperson, it was confirmed that the feature of sending messages to Instagram via Threads was tested.

Threads still doesn't have its own inbox. It remains unclear whether this will happen. Instagram head Adam Mosseri has said many times that they do not want to create a separate inbox for Threads and instead prefer to run Instagram's inbox in Threads. The Meta spokesperson also underlines that the current study is not a “DM test in Threads”.

Meta aims to make communication via Threads less cumbersome

While it's not a full-fledged DM feature, the ability to send messages from the Threads app without having to switch to Instagram could at least make messaging from Threads a little less cumbersome. However, checking or replying to these messages will still require users to go to the Instagram app.
