Honor 500 spotted at China National Sports Games ahead of official announcement

Honor’s new smartphone series, Honor 500, was captured on camera at the 15th National Sports Games held in China before it was officially introduced. Olympic champion athlete Chen Yuxi took a selfie with an undisclosed Honor phone on stage during the medal ceremony, marking the first public appearance of the new series.

According to the images shared by Honor R&D engineer A Yong, a new horizontally positioned camera module design is preferred in the Honor 500 series. While this arrangement offers an aesthetic similar to the iPhone Air model, the dual-camera rear design of the device coincides with previously leaked technical drawings with “runway style” lines. The more advanced Honor 500 Pro model will feature a triple camera array, which will offer more advanced photography capabilities.

Honor 500 series will come with Snapdragon 8 series processors

On the technical features side, it has been confirmed that the series will include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 series processors. While the standard Honor 500 model is expected to run on Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the Pro version will reportedly feature the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. These new generation chipsets promise both long battery life and a smoother gaming experience thanks to Phantom Engine 3.0 support.

The camera features of the Honor 500 also look remarkable. While the main model includes a 200-megapixel main camera and an ultra-wide-angle lens, the Pro version is also expected to have a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. This hardware is capable of meeting users’ expectations, especially in mobile photography.

On the battery capacity side, it is claimed that both models will carry a large battery of approximately 8,000 mAh. In addition, devices equipped with 100W fast charging support will offer the advantage of being charged in a short time as well as long-term use. Meanwhile, it was shared that both models will come with a 6.5-inch, flat-surface OLED screen with 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. It is also expected that the devices will offer IP68/69 water and dust resistance along with wireless charging support.

The Honor 500 series has already received the necessary network certifications in China. All technical features and pricing details are expected to become clear with the official launch expected to be held this month.
