Google has started rolling out the first set of Cross-Device Services to Android devices with Call Broadcast and Instant Hotspot features, which it announced at the end of May. These innovations aim to give users a more seamless and integrated experience across their devices.
Once these new features arrive on your device, you need to follow these steps to enable them: Settings > Google > Devices & Sharing > Cross-Device ServicesThe setup process involves creating a “device group” by enabling these preferences on signed-in devices.
Call Broadcast and Instant Hotspot features in Android
Call Cast allows calls to be carried between other nearby devices that are signed in with a Google Account. However, this feature is limited to certain apps. Switching between calls can share some device data with those apps. Currently, this feature is only available with Google Meet, and the Cast branding is being reused in this context. There is a Cast icon to carry a video call between an Android phone, tablet, or desktop browser.
Instant Hotspot automatically shares internet access between devices. This feature works with Chromebooks and Android devices that are signed into a Google Account. However, Bluetooth and device location must be turned on for internet sharing. Tethering cannot be used with this feature on Samsung devices. The automatic personal hotspot feature is activated for these devices.
How to enable new cross-posting features on Android?
There’s a toggle button that lets you turn each feature on or off, and Google displays groups of devices on the home screen of the Cross-Device Services page. Right now, these services are available on Android devices running version 24.28.34 of Google Play Services, which is still in beta. These features are available for phones and tablets running Android 11 and above.
Google says Android users will receive the new cross-device features as soon as they are released. With these innovations, users will be able to manage their connections more efficiently by having a seamless experience across their devices. Android users will be able to switch between devices faster and easier, and continue their work and communications more effectively.
The conveniences that these innovations will bring to daily life will take the user experience to the next level. Especially users with a busy work schedule will have the opportunity to use their devices more effectively with these features. At the same time, the continuous updating and development of these services aims to increase user satisfaction by preserving the dynamic structure of the Android ecosystem.
This move by Google demonstrates its progress in improving user experience and strengthening cross-device integration. With these innovations, Android users will be able to use their devices more efficiently and manage their daily lives and business processes more seamlessly.
