Search engines had a critical role in finding the information people needed. Google says it has been developing policies and automated systems to combat spam and filter out low-quality content for many years. The technology giant also underlines that it regularly updates its policies and systems to improve the quality of search results and users’ connection to high-quality websites. The company aims to take things a little further with its newly announced March 2024 Algorithm Update.

Google has announced that it will make algorithmic improvements to its core ranking systems to improve the quality of search results and reduce unoriginal content. These improvements will ensure that low-quality content is reduced in search results while bringing the most helpful information on the web to the surface.

Google is updating its spam policies to keep the lowest quality content from search results. These updates, which will target content such as expired websites and obituary spam that are reused as spam warehouses by new owners, aim to prevent poor quality.

In 2022, Google began adjusting its ranking systems to reduce unaided, unoriginal content in search results and keep such content at very low levels. With the core update to be made in March 2024, the information obtained from these studies will be put into practice.

Reducing spam results in Google searches

For decades, Google has relied on advanced spam-fighting systems and policies to ensure that the lowest quality content does not appear in search results. The company is making several updates to its spam policies to better address manipulative behavior and new and evolving abusive practices that lead to inauthentic, low-quality content appearing in Search.

Google has long had a policy against the scale production of low-quality or unoriginal content using automation to manipulate search rankings. Today, methods for creating content at scale have become more sophisticated, and it’s not always so obvious whether content is being created entirely through automation. To better respond to these techniques, Google says it has strengthened its policy to focus on this abusive behavior that generates content at scale to increase search rankings.

According to Google, sometimes websites may also host low-quality content provided by third-party individuals or organizations in an attempt to capitalize on the strong reputation of the host site. For example, credit reviews published by a third party on a trusted education website may be used to gain ranking benefits from the site. The high ranking of this type of content in Search can confuse or mislead visitors who may have very different expectations for content on a website. Google will now consider third-party content that is of very low value, produced for ranking purposes, and produced without the close supervision of the website owner as spam.

Google also takes precautions against the use of expired domain names. Occasionally, expired domains are purchased and repurposed for the purpose of improving the search rankings of low-quality or unoriginal content. This may mislead you into thinking that the new content is linked to the old site. Expired domains that are repurposed with low-quality content to increase search rankings are now considered spam.

While Google helps people by answering billions of questions every day, it also underlines that it will continue to work on keeping low-quality content at low levels in search results and showing more information created to help people. We hope that these updates will have a positive impact on Google Turkey search results, whose quality is decreasing day by day.
