Fediverse’s short video application for TikTok: Loops

Fediverse, the decentralized social media ecosystem, is expanding with Loops, a new application in the field of short video content. Loops was developed by Daniel Supernault, creator of Instagram-like Pixelfed, and is currently accepting users during its early registration period. Focused on sharing short, looping videos, Loops aims to offer a TikTok-like experience across Fediverse platforms. Users can make short-form videos accessible to different communities by taking advantage of the decentralized structure offered by Fediverse.

Loops features and Fediverse integration

Users can share videos of up to 60 seconds on the Loops platform. The main features of Loops include interacting with other users’ videos and using the remix feature by adding to their own content. However, there is no use of hashtags and mentions in the application yet. In addition, users will be able to organize their videos into categories and have the opportunity to tailor their comment sections. The app will currently be available to iOS users via TestFlight and to Android users via sideloading.

Loops, whose Fediverse integration has not yet been completed, is expected to establish a stronger connection with other Fediverse platforms in the future. This connection will allow users on platforms such as Mastodon or Pixelfed to share short videos and interact with other users via Loops. Thus, users will have the opportunity to combine the freedom provided by the decentralized social media structure with a broader video sharing experience.

Security and moderation system in Loops

Another notable feature of Loops is that it offers a community-based moderation system. The trust score created for each user on the platform will play an important role in the video sharing process. While the videos of users with low trust scores will be subject to a moderation process before being published, the content of trustworthy users will be published directly. This structure aims to provide a safe content experience on the platform.

Additionally, Loops follows a strict privacy policy of not sharing user data with advertising or third-party companies. The platform, which uses donations, sponsorships and grants as its revenue model, aims to offer an independent structure in this respect.

Loops, which is expected to bring a new breath to short video sharing in the decentralized social media field, aims to make users’ content their own and offer a sharing experience independent of third-party influences. Unlike TikTok, Loops, which stands out with its user-focused and community-controlled structure, has the potential to pave the way for video-focused content in the Fediverse ecosystem.
