Canva has expanded the user experience by adding many new artificial intelligence (AI) features to its web-based design platform. Among these updates, improvements in text and video effects creation tools and a more powerful text-to-image conversion application stand out. This new tool is called “Dream Lab” and was launched earlier this year when Canva acquired a generative artificial intelligence startup called Leonardo.ai.
Dream Lab is powered by Leonardo’s Phoenix model (not to be confused with Adobe’s Firefly AI) and allows users to create visuals based on descriptions in different styles such as “3D rendering” or “Illustration”.
Canva already had an AI rendering tool based on Stable Diffusion and various third-party applications. However, Dream Lab brings significant improvements to this platform. It seems that he is especially successful in producing images with a photographic style and multiple subjects. It also includes a feature that gives more control over the output by referencing an image. This feature works similar to Photoshop’s Reference Image tool.
In addition to Dream Lab, Canva has also made some updates to its widely used “Magic” AI toolset. In particular, the accuracy of Magic Write, a text creation tool, has been improved and one-click autocomplete commands have been added. Whiteboards now have AI-powered summarization features and real-time reaction stickers for collaboration projects. Features such as automatic subtitle creation and new animation effects have been added to video editing tools.
In addition, users can now better visualize data by adding interactive graphs and tables to their presentations. Canva’s asset library has also been expanded and royalty-free music and cinematic videos have been added to the platform thanks to the licensing agreement with the Artlist music platform.
Canva is preparing for a price increase
Last month, Canva announced that it planned to increase subscription prices for some of its professional customers. The reason for this price increase was cited as the “improved product experience” and value offered by the artificial intelligence tools added to the platform. The acquisition of Leonardo.AI is also considered as part of this investment plan. However, users may be disappointed that they will only have to bear increased costs for incremental improvements rather than completely new AI features.
