Epic Games’ digital asset store Fab is now available

Epic Games announced the launch of the Fab marketplace, which aims to serve as a central platform for digital assets. This platform, where environments, animations and similar digital assets can be provided, aims to enable game developers to more easily access the content they need. It is also seen as an important step in Epic Games’ goal of making it possible to create content for an interoperable metaverse in the future.

The company first announced its Fab platform plans in March 2023. This platform will unite various digital asset stores such as Unreal Engine Marketplace, Sketchfab Store, Quixel and ArtStation Marketplace under one roof. While Epic initially planned to introduce Fab in 2023, it later postponed this date to 2024.

Fab offers 88 percent revenue sharing on products sold. This rate is the same as the revenue sharing model offered to developers on the Epic Games Store. Prior to the launch of Fab, Epic Games allowed content creators to prepare their Unreal Engine Marketplace and Sketchfab products for the Fab platform. ArtStation Marketplace will continue to operate in its current form. However, Epic Games announced that ArtStation users will be able to move their content to Fab by 2025.

Epic Games is also planning new moves for Fab

Epic Games also shared some plans for future updates to the Fab platform. The most notable of these is that there will be support for Roblox and Minecraft assets to be offered for sale on Fab. It was also stated that MetaHumans, Epic’s highly realistic human models, will also be accessible via the Fab platform.

The launch of Fab is seen as an important step in Epic Games’ strategy to expand its digital asset ecosystem. This platform, which aims to speed up the game development process, makes it easier for developers to obtain content from different sources. Additionally, Epic’s plans to offer asset support for popular gaming platforms such as Roblox and Minecraft signal the company’s goal to appeal to a broader base of users. MetaHumans support can pave the way for more realistic game and content production processes.
