Beats’ long-awaited Powerbeats Pro 2 headphones are coming in 2025

One of the products that Beats has delayed updating the most is the Powerbeats Pro. Launched in 2019, these wireless headphones and their iconic earhook design have been around since then without any major hardware changes to the company’s lineup. But finally, a completely new model is coming. Beats shared a video today introducing the Powerbeats Pro 2, announcing that these new headphones will be released in 2025.

The video highlights the redesigned in-ear model, introduced by rising baseball star Shohei Ohtani. Earhook fans will be pleased to see that the hooks are still present in this new model. For those looking for an alternative to the hooked design, there are still other options available, such as the Beats Fit Pro, Studio Buds Plus, and Solo Buds.

In 2020, a short-lived model of the Beats Powerbeats Pro was also released without the “Pro”. This model featured a neck-strap design, but was quietly discontinued a year later. It turned out that truly wireless headphones were more popular in consumer preferences.

When the Powerbeats Pro first came out, I was a big fan of these headphones. However, the charging issues became annoying for users. The headphones often failed to charge if they were not placed correctly in the charging case, and the case itself was quite bulky. I hope Beats improves these issues with the new model. Also, the bar has been raised significantly in sound quality since 2019, so we can expect a significant improvement in sound performance with the new model.

Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 will also compete with AirPods models

The timing of this video is also quite remarkable. Beats parent company Apple is expected to introduce two new AirPods models next week, and one of them is rumored to have active noise cancellation. But if you’re planning on using these headphones at the gym or for a run, Beats’ video could be telling you to hold off on Apple’s new models for a while longer.
