The Browser Company announced that it will shut down the Arc browser on December 22, 2026. The process of creating a new account in Arc, one of the options among internet browsers, ended as of October 22. Existing accounts are not closed immediately. The company is implementing a phased schedule for desktop and mobile versions.
on November 23 Browse for Me and other artificial intelligence features will be disabled on iOS and Android. On the same date, Arc account login and tab syncing will also stop. In contrast, basic usage of the mobile browser will continue for a while. This date is not the same day that the desktop version will stop working.
on December 22 macOS and Windows users will not be able to access Arc. The company will deactivate Arc accounts and delete personal data associated with these accounts within 30 days. The Android version of Arc Search will also be removed from Google Play. On the iOS side, the company is talking about a mobile browser with limited features.
This calendar requires prior data transfer for those who want to preserve their open tabs and records. The current version of Arc offers the option to export data. The company also reports that the desktop app will continue to receive key updates until the closure. However, Arc does not promise a service that allows you to retrieve the data in your account after closing.
Dia supports importing existing Arc data
The company’s Dia browser offers a free download for macOS and Windows. The product page describes separate profiles, split view, and tab editing tools together. Profiles allow separating sessions for business and personal use. Split view, on the other hand, keeps two workspaces side by side in the same window.
Dia’s AI features focus on bringing together information from different tabs and connected tools. The company defines functions such as morning summary, meeting preparation and producing presentations from documents. Their data access depends on the tools the user connects and the permissions they grant. The company also states that the user controls which tools are connected and whether preferences are remembered.
When migrating from Arc, the company says passwords, history, plugins, and tabs can be moved to Dia. Fields in Arc correspond to profiles in Dia, and folders correspond to tab groups. Those who want to switch to another browser can export their open tabs as a link list. The deadline for existing users who wish to retain their data remains December 22, 2026.
