Turkcell launched its free Global 3 GB campaign, activated via BiP, as of October 22. The gift includes 3 GB internet to be used once a year, 300 minutes for calling and receiving calls, and 200 SMS. The package is valid in 174 countries announced by the company. The detailed conditions of the campaign for postpaid customers exclude Rahat packages.
To benefit from the gift, you need to join the Travel channel within BiP and use the “Activate My Gift” button. Turkcell states that it will inform you via SMS after activation. The usage period starts at two weeks after this participation. Therefore, activating it too long before travel may cause you to lose some of your rights in terms of time before you even go abroad.
In addition, the campaign does not offer an internet package that is automatically renewed every month. The once-a-year right and the two-week usage window are different conditions. If you travel more than once a year, you should not think that a new free 3 GB will be assigned at each departure. The general end date of the campaign is stated as December 31, 2027.
The corporate campaign page also confirms the two-week period and participation via BiP. Users can receive notifications when 80 percent or all of their package rights are consumed. It is also a separate condition that the country you will go to is on the list. For example, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan and TRNC are included in the declared scope.
International usage fees may apply when the gift ends.
On the other hand, the expiration of the free package does not mean that all subsequent uses will remain free. Campaign conditions state that after the rights expire, use can be continued with the Tarifn Valid Abroad service or another suitable international package. At this stage, the country you are in and the characteristics of your line change the pricing.
Turkcell’s Tariff Valid Abroad statement states that the first use in the appropriate country can initiate daily charging. With 174 countries in the campaign, the country coverage of this service in each price category is not the same list. For this reason, it is necessary to separately check the conditions after the gift is finished.
The statement in the company’s campaign text that there is no overage fee does not mean unlimited free roaming. If TYG or another package is not suitable, standard international fees may apply. Before the trip, checking both the SMS stating that the gift is activated and the international usage settings of your line will allow you to see at what stage the package will turn into paid use.
