Apple launched version 4.0 for its sports-focused application Apple Sports. The new update brings various tournament-specific features ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while also significantly expanding the reach of the application. According to the information shared by the company, Apple Sports is now available in more than 170 countries and regions around the world. Expanding the scope of the application, which was previously available in a limited number of markets, coincides with a remarkable period, especially for global sports organizations. It is worth noting that with this expansion, the Apple Sports application has become available in Türkiye as well.
According to Apple’s statement on the App Store, the application will offer special tracking tools for the World Cup, which will start in June. Users will be able to see the first 11 squads and lineups of the teams throughout the tournament. In addition, qualifying matches, tournament tree and match results can be followed in real time. Thanks to Apple Sports’ live score infrastructure, it is aimed to instantly convey the developments in the match to the users.
Users who update the application will be presented with a new information screen focused on the World Cup. While this section offers the option to follow certain national teams, users can directly add the “FIFA World Cup 2026” title to their follow list. In this way, all scores, fixtures and developments related to the tournament can be viewed on a single stream. It seems that Apple developed this structure to reduce information density, especially in large organizations.
Apple Sports is now available in more countries
One of the notable innovations of the Apple Sports application was on the global access side. According to the information provided by the company, the application has been opened to access in more than 90 new countries and regions. Thus, the total number of supported markets increased to over 170. Apple Sports, which stood out with its North American-based usage area in previous versions, aims to reach a wider user base with this update.
Apple Sports; It offers live scores and match tracking in different sports such as football, basketball, baseball, tennis and American football. Although the application attracts attention with its simple interface and quickly updated data structure, it may still be limited in some regions compared to its competitors in terms of local league coverage. Despite this, it seems that Apple is trying to make the application more visible, especially during major tournaments. Organizations that attract great attention on a global scale, such as the World Cup, also constitute a natural opportunity for this strategy.
In addition, Apple Sports’ integration with the Apple ecosystem continues to be one of the highlights of the application. Users can follow their favorite teams, receive instant notifications and quickly access match developments. On the other hand, the fact that the application is currently only available to iPhone users limits the platform’s reach to a certain extent. The lack of a special version for iPad or Mac is among the shortcomings frequently mentioned by users.
It is estimated that with the new update, Apple Sports will be used more actively, especially during the World Cup period. While innovations such as real-time match data, squad information and tournament tree support make the application more functional, the expansion of global reach shows that Apple continues to attach importance to sports content.
