AT&T announced its new “eSIM by AT&T” service covering the US, Canada and Mexico. The company’s new solution specifically targets visitors traveling to North America for the FIFA World Cup, which will be held between June 11 and July 19. Thanks to the eSIM-based service, short-term mobile connection can be provided without the need for a physical SIM card. Within the scope of the service, package options are offered according to different usage periods. All packages include unlimited mobile data access and a certain amount of hotspot usage.
The pricing structure announced by AT&T varies depending on the usage period and the countries covered. The one-day package, which is valid only in the USA, carries a price tag of $ 3.99. The seven-day package costs $15.99 for the US, while the version covering the US, Canada and Mexico is offered for $24.99. In the fifteen-day option, the price is $ 25.99 for the USA, while the version covering three countries is set at $ 39.99. The price of the thirty-day package was announced as $40.99 only for the USA and $59.99 for three countries. The company also stated that the stated prices include taxes and additional fees.
In order to benefit from this service, users must first have a smartphone that supports eSIM and does not have a carrier lock. In addition, iPhone users are asked to download the “Connect on Demand by AT&T” application from the App Store and Android users from the Google Play Store. After reaching the USA, eSIM can be activated by selecting the appropriate package via the application. Thus, connection can be established without visiting a physical store or SIM card delivery process.
AT&T focuses on digital connectivity solution for short-term visitors
Although all offered packages have unlimited data access, hotspot usage is limited to 5 GB. In addition, the company announced that packages containing unlimited calls and messaging will be added to the system soon. The current structure focuses more on the need for data connectivity. It seems that this approach aims to provide a practical solution for World Cup visitors, especially considering usage scenarios such as navigation, social media sharing, messaging applications and live broadcast consumption.
eSIM solutions have become more common in travel-oriented mobile services in recent years. The most striking advantages of this technology are that it eliminates the need to carry a physical SIM card and can be activated in a short time. In addition, it provides an alternative option for users who do not want to face high roaming charges at many airports or tourist areas. However, device support remains a basic requirement for using such services. The lack of eSIM support, especially on older model phones, may be limiting for some users.
Jenifer Robertson, one of AT&T executives, stated in her statement that visitors expect simple and uninterrupted connection from the moment they travel. With the new service, the company aims to enable users to follow the matches, share their experiences and stay connected during the travel.
