Apple is testing a new system that will automatically resolve tab clutter in Safari

It is stated that Apple is working on one of the long-awaited tab management innovations for Safari. According to information shared by Bloomberg writer Mark Gurman, the company is testing a new system that can automatically organize Safari tabs in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. Thanks to this feature, which is based on the existing Tab Groups infrastructure, the need for users to manually organize open tabs may be reduced. This system is aimed to simplify the daily usage experience, especially for users who work with dozens of tabs.

The Tab Groups feature, already available in Safari, allows users to create tab groups for different categories such as work, travel plans, shopping or personal use. However, the current structure works completely manually and users must create and edit groups themselves. The new system that Apple is testing automates this process. Allegedly, there is a new option called “Organized Tabs” in Safari, and when this feature is enabled, the browser can group open tabs on a topic-based basis.

It is stated that the new system analyzes the user’s browsing habits and types of content visited and collects similar tabs under the same group. In addition, it is stated that the system will work silently in the background. This way, users may not need to constantly create group names or move tabs one by one. It is said that Safari will continue to keep related tabs under the same title over time.

A simpler and more useful experience is aimed for Safari

It is not yet clear whether Apple will offer this feature directly under the “Apple Intelligence” brand. Despite this, it is thought that there are artificial intelligence-supported analyzes behind the system. Because processes such as content analysis and user behavior tracking need to be used to automatically separate tabs based on topic. In addition, it is noteworthy that Apple has recently turned to using artificial intelligence in more invisible and daily use-oriented areas.

It is said that the company’s approach to iOS 27 is based more on ease of use and system improvements. Instead of major design changes or flashy artificial intelligence tools, the focus seems to be on small but effective innovations that users will benefit from every day without realizing it. The automatic tab grouping system prepared for Safari is also considered an example of this approach.

On the other hand, tab management remains one of the most complex areas of modern browsers. Rival browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have offered different tools for tab organization in recent years. Apple taking a similar step could make the cross-device browser experience more streamlined, especially for iPhone, iPad and Mac users. In addition, it seems that it will become clear how accurately the system will work and whether incorrect groupings will affect the user experience only when the final version is available.
