Production problems and delay claims are now on the agenda for iPhone Fold

Apple’s foldable iPhone Fold model, which has been on the agenda for a long time, may be behind the planned schedule due to technical problems arising during the development process. According to information provided by Nikkei, more engineering problems than expected were detected during early production tests of the device. It is stated that this situation may push the first shipment date of the product forward by a few months. Sources knowledgeable about the process point out that the period between April and the beginning of May is especially critical. However, in another news published today, it was also claimed that the wheels for the iPhone Fold could start turning in July.

According to sources, Apple has notified component suppliers that there may be a delay in the production schedule. While it is stated that the company is working intensively to solve engineering problems, it is also emphasized that current solutions are not yet sufficient. This situation may lead to the reshaping of Apple’s planned production process. In particular, the development of complex components such as foldable screens and hinges is among the most sensitive points of the process.

Critical stages in the iPhone Fold development process stand out

Claims that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone date back to 2017. Despite this, the company took a more cautious approach compared to its competitors in this category. While the market is gradually expanding after Samsung introduced its first foldable phone in 2019, it is known that Apple aims to introduce a more mature product to enter this field. However, current technical issues may directly impact the timeline of this approach.

It is stated that the model in question has passed production verification tests, which is the fourth of six stages in the company’s product development process. This stage is considered a critical threshold before pilot production and mass production. However, the foldable iPhone, which has a completely new design, must meet high standards at every stage. Therefore, it is not considered a surprise that additional time is needed to solve the problems encountered.

On the other hand, it was previously said that Apple aimed to introduce this model with the iPhone 18 series in the autumn of 2026. However, there is a possibility that disruptions in production and durability may postpone the project to 2027. In particular, the ability of foldable screen technology to maintain its performance in long-term use stands out as one of the most critical evaluation criteria of such devices.

It is stated that Apple plans to produce approximately 7 to 8 million foldable iPhones in the first stage. Although this figure indicates a share of less than 10 percent of the total iPhone production, it appears that the product is evaluated in a different position for the company. In addition, it is stated that Apple has not yet officially announced the device and has refrained from commenting on the issue.

All these developments show that Apple’s entry into the foldable phone market will be more cautious and controlled than expected. Although it still seems possible to bring the device to market if the technical problems are resolved, the current table indicates that the timetable may be stretched. However, the fact that different claims came to the fore in a short time shows that all of these claims should be approached with caution.
