2 GB models of Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 increased

Raspberry Pi increased the prices of Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 models with 2 GB memory. In its announcement dated October 1, the company announced that it increased both models by $ 12.50. Following previous price increases on Raspberry Pi products, lower memory options were also affected this time. The new official price is $67.50 for the 2 GB Raspberry Pi 4 and $77.50 for the 2 GB Raspberry Pi 5.

Before this change, the same models were sold for $55 and $65, respectively. Although the increase is the same in dollar terms for both cards, it creates the need to recalculate the total cost for those planning to build an entry-level computer. Moreover, the card alone is not sufficient for every project; Power supply, storage unit, enclosure and necessary connection parts can also be included in the shopping list. Therefore, just looking at the sticker price of the card may not show the actual installation cost.

Raspberry Pi notes that memory costs have risen sharply in the last two years and continue to rise. While there was a price increase for products with higher memory capacity in April, the prices of the 1 GB and 2 GB options of Raspberry Pi 4 and 5 were maintained. The company says that keeping the 2GB versions at their old prices is no longer sustainable. The statement states that the new prices are valid as of October 1.

On the other hand, the increase did not spread to the entire product family. Prices for the 1 GB versions of the Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 and the 2 GB Compute Module 4 and Compute Module 5 remain the same. This distinction is important; Just saying “Raspberry Pi has been priced” can miss which card is affected. The amounts announced by the company are official prices in dollars. Sales prices in Türkiye may vary depending on the seller, tax and other local costs.

In which projects might options with less memory be sufficient?

Raspberry Pi advises buyers to re-evaluate the amount of memory required by the usage scenario. For a lightweight server, single-purpose controller, or particular education project, the extra memory of a more expensive card may not be used. In addition, he reminds that old Raspberry Pi 3B, 3A+ and 3B+ models can also be a lower-cost option for some tasks. Of course, when making a decision, it is necessary to evaluate not only the amount of memory but also the processing power, input-output connections and software requirements.

The company also draws attention to another point: Advertisements above the official price and products that do not reflect reality can be seen in unauthorized sellers. That’s why he suggests checking the list of approved vendors. The amounts of $67.50 and $77.50 mentioned here should not be read as the final retail price in Türkiye. It will be useful to separately verify the price and box contents at the local store, especially for those who order together with accessories.

Raspberry Pi also states that it hopes to roll back its price increases when the pressure on the memory market eases. However, it does not promise a date or a definitive discount for this. Therefore, it seems more appropriate for users who will buy a 2 GB card in the near future to make their decision based on the hardware required by the project today and current sales conditions, rather than a possible price drop.
