Apple shared six photos taken with iPhone Duo

According to Apple’s technical announcement, the main camera has a 48-megapixel Fusion sensor. The phone can record 24-megapixel photos by default, and also provides 2x zoom in optical quality from the main sensor. The second rear camera consists of a 48-megapixel ultra-wide angle unit. The company’s press page also includes separate examples for the main camera, ultra wide angle, low light and front camera.

The foldable structure also changes the way of shooting. The outer screen of the iPhone Duo can show a live preview when taking selfies with the rear camera. The option called Duo Preview helps the person in the frame see the image. In addition, the Center Stage front camera can expand the field of view when more people enter the frame. Apple introduced these functions, but does not explain one by one with which camera and setting each photo in the new gallery was taken.

Selected frames alone do not measure camera performance

Although the colors, details and contrast seen in the six photos attract attention, the results should not be directly transferred to daily use. There is no full information about the lighting conditions and editing process of the promotional shots. On the other hand, examples in Apple’s own press material show what the wide angle and main camera are aiming for in different scenes. True performance will require independent comparisons with moving subjects, night shots, portraits and video recordings.

iPhone Duo does not carry a separate telephoto camera on the back; 2x zoom is obtained from the main sensor. This distinction is especially important for users who frequently shoot remote subjects. The information provided by Apple reveals how zoom is achieved, but it does not mean that this will give the same result as a special camera with a longer focal length under all circumstances. There is also a camera under the inner screen of the phone for FaceTime calls.

Apple will open iPhone Duo pre-orders on October 16 in the first countries, including Türkiye. General sale will start on October 23. The photos released until these dates offer a starting point for those who want to compare the device. However, in the purchasing decision, it would be better to evaluate independent tests, the foldable structure of the device and the price in Türkiye, along with sample frames.
