Xiaomi started a new era in the charging wars by launching the first smartphone with support for charging speeds above 200W. The company now seems to have shifted its focus from increasing charging speed to increasing battery capacity.
According to a post by the famous tipster Digital Chat Station, the company is developing a 7000 mAh battery with 120W charging support and a 7500 mAh battery with 100W charging support. The battery, charging speed combinations and charging times that the company is working on at its R&D center in Nanjing Science and Technology Park are as follows:
- 5000mAh – 120W – 18 minutes
- 5500mAh – 100W – 34 minutes
- 6000mAh – 120W – 30 minutes
- 6500mAh – 120W – 49 minutes
- 7000mAh – 120W – 40 minutes
- 7500mAh – 100W – 63 minutes
Xiaomi is not the only company that prefers larger battery capacity to higher charging speed
It is worth noting that Xiaomi is one of the many manufacturers that sacrifice high charging speeds for better battery capacity. Honor, vivo, OnePlus (Oppo and Realme in turn) are switching to silicon carbon cells that provide higher energy density. The issue of offering high charging speeds has been put on the back burner. However, let us remind you that Realme will also announce its 300W charging speed technology next week.
The Vivo X Fold 3 has a 5,500mAh battery with 80W charging support in its 4.7mm thick chassis. The OnePlus Ace 3 Pro has a 6,100mAh battery with 100W charging support. It is not yet known which device Xiaomi will use the new battery technology in first.
