Qualcomm seems to be preparing to change its naming strategy for its flagship processors. A promotional image released for the Xiaomi 15 series hints that the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be called “Snapdragon 8 Elite”.
This is a departure from Qualcomm’s naming tradition, which usually proceeds chronologically. The new approach is also similar to the processor naming in Windows laptops called Snapdragon X Elite.
Previously, it was thought that Qualcomm would continue to introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor with the same numbering system. However, the “Elite” label indicates a new naming strategy and is expected to cause some confusion due to its similarity with Snapdragon X Elite. Xiaomi 15 series is planned to be introduced on October 23, which means Snapdragon 8 Elite will be announced by Qualcomm before this date.
Snapdragon 8 Elite will be Qualcomm’s first chipset with 3nm architecture. The new processor offers a 56% GPU performance increase compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Additionally, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is predicted to come with Snapdragon 8 Elite, was spotted in Geekbench tests. The device stands out with its 3.53 GHz base frequency and 4.47 GHz peak frequency. It scored 3011 points in the single-core test and an impressive 9706 points in the multi-core test.
What features will Xiaomi 15 Pro come with?
Other leaks and certifications have revealed that the Xiaomi 15 Pro will come with 90W fast charging, HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15, and an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. It is also claimed that the device will have a 6000mAh battery and IP69 water and dust resistance certification. In addition to the 15 Pro, Xiaomi will introduce the standard model of Xiaomi 15 on October 23; 15 Ultra is expected to be announced at a later date.
