X is working to prevent links from being shared in replies

X is working on a new method to reduce “spam” posts on the platform. Independent application researcher Nima Owji, who has previously revealed many of the features added to X, revealed that preparations are being made to prevent links from being shared in replies.

The post by Owji also shows how this feature will work. Those who do not want their posts to be filled with links will be able to block replies that contain links by checking the “Disable Links in Replies” box before sharing.

Christopher Stanley, X’s senior director of security engineering, also confirmed the existence of the feature, adding that his team is in development. In addition to keeping spam bots at bay, the feature could also prevent human users from promoting their own websites in other people’s posts.

However, if users try to debunk misinformation and prevent further spread of fake news, it may not be possible for them to link to legitimate sources. It can be said that this will make things especially difficult for those who are fighting to spread accurate information.

Owji has previously explored features developed by X

Owji previously revealed that X was developing an in-app currency to help creators generate revenue. A few months after widespread spoofing of the website, Owji also revealed that the site was also working on new identity verification features. The diligent researcher also discovered that the company was looking to compete with LinkedIn by offering job postings to verified organizations.
