Windows 11 gains macOS -style transition between telephone and computer

With Microsoft, Windows 11, a new feature to make the transition between devices more fluent and intuitive. This feature, called “Cross Device Resume, will allow users to maintain their open applications with a single click on their computers. Apple’s Handoff feature between MacOS and iPhone is very similar to a structure. This system, which is shown in the developer sessions, aims to uninterrupted the user experience among different devices.

This feature first appeared at the Microsoft Build 2025 event. During a session for developers, the demo shows how the Spotify session, which is open on mobile, could be maintained from where it left on the computer. However, Microsoft quickly lifted this show and held the demo quietly. However, the details of the function are revealed.

Aakash Varshney, Microsoft Product Manager, detailed how this experience will work. If the user has an open application on the mobile device, the Windows 11 taskbar will have a small badge on the symbol of that application. This badge will serve as a visual clue that shows that the application is open on mobile and can be continued. With the click, the application will automatically open on the computer and continue from the point where it remains.

In the presentation of Vershney’s presentation, the statement “Continue: The last opened on your mobile device” was the statement. When the user clicks on this notification, the same song starts to play on the desktop device and the experience is continuing uninterruptedly. This transition is made without any search or restarting. This can be a practical solution, especially for users who change frequent applications.

Although this system may seem new, Microsoft had tried a similar structure before. Introduced in 2016, “Project Rome ç code -named structure aimed at making applications portable among the devices. However, the expected prevalence could not be obtained. Cross Device Resume, on the other hand, has a more simple, understandable and user -friendly architecture.

However, this feature is not expected to be limited to music applications such as Spotify. It is foreseen that the same functionality can be provided for many different software, such as e-mail, document editing or video call applications. This may offer a significant advantage in terms of both productivity and daily use. The fact that application developers offer updates compatible with this feature will play a key role in the spread of use.

In addition to all these, the gradual deepening of the integration between Android phones and Windows 11 makes this innovation even more meaningful. This process, which starts with the “Your Telephone” application, is no longer limited to showing notifications and messages. More advanced solutions such as continuing from where it left at the application level become possible. With this integration, users aim to perform their daily operations faster.
