WhatsApp also brings chat themes from the phone to its web client. According to WABetaInfo’s October 15 review, some WhatsApp Web beta users were 27 themes He started to choose among them. New options change the color of the conversation wallpaper and message bubbles together. However, WhatsApp does not open the feature to all accounts yet.
The review conveys that the same experience reaches the Windows app as well. Themes are located in the chat theme section in settings. Additionally, the live preview on the right shows how the selection will appear on the conversation screen before saving it. The first option allows you to return to the default view.
When you choose from the settings, the application applies the new theme to all conversations. On the other hand, you can choose different views for a single conversation from the chat information screen. You can also change the wallpaper and color separately without settling for the ready-made theme.
On the other hand, the change of appearance does not go to the other side of the conversation. Each participant sees the theme of their own choosing. WABetaInfo reports that there is also work between the parties on theme and wallpaper synchronization. However, the company does not make this separate option available yet.
WhatsApp previously made available theme options on the phone
It is necessary to distinguish the new web distribution from the personalization options that WhatsApp has previously launched in mobile applications. The company announced colorful message balloons and chat themes in its official announcement dated February 13, 2025. In addition to ready-made matches, that announcement also allowed the user to combine colors and backgrounds according to their own preference.
To change the default of all chats on the mobile side, you follow Settings, Chats and Default chat theme. You access the chat theme by tapping the name at the top of a particular conversation on iPhone, or by tapping the three-dot menu on Android. Therefore, when searching for the web client’s settings, you should not wait for the exact menu order on the phone. The new section on the web shows themes in a grid with their previews.
WhatsApp’s previous mobile announcement included 30 new wallpapers as well as a selection of backgrounds from the phone’s photo archive. The company had also announced the option to change the theme of the channels. The 27 themes appearing today in the web beta do not represent the same list as the number of wallpapers in that old announcement. WABetaInfo states that the new option will reach more accounts in the coming weeks, but does not give an exact completion date for all users.
