WhatsApp is preparing for communication without numbers with user names

WhatsApp is working on a user name system in which users can communicate without having to share the phone number. This new feature can be remarkable especially for users who care about their privacy. This system, which has existed on platforms such as Telegram and Signal, is finally coming to WhatsApp. The feature that is currently in the test process has shown itself with some clues in the last beta versions of the application.

According to the code lines determined by Wabetaınfo, the user name feature is preparing to fully integrate into the application. It has not yet been actively tested by beta users, but the basic structure of the system has already begun to be seen in in -app knees. The user name will provide a more controlled communication environment by hiding the phone number. In addition, users are planned to start a chat by setting a unique pseudonym.

WhatsApp configures the system by taking priority of user privacy

It is already clear that certain rules will be valid in the new user name system. Usernames “www. ” It will not be allowed to start with a official site, as well as figures or symbols.

According to the determined rules, user names must contain at least one letter. The characters that can be used will be limited to lowercase letters and the numbers, points and sub -lines will be supported. Thanks to this structure, it is aimed that user names will remain in a comprehensible and consistent format. When a correct user name is selected, the application will confirm this process with a colorful confetti animation.

With the new system, usernames will now appear instead of numbers in chats. This detail will come to the forefront especially in groups and speeches with a new person. This may ensure that personal information is more protected while communicating with unknown people. In spite of everything, restrictions are included in case of abuse of the system.

If the user name is changed later, WhatsApp will announce this with a small notification message in the chat. This structure will work just like profile photo or phone number updates. Users will not have difficulty following the identity of the people they know. In addition, such system messages are expected to be presented in a simple structure to prevent user experience.

The user name control tool will also be added with an update to the web version. With this tool, users will be able to see in advance whether the names they have chosen have been taken before. Thus, usability control will become more effortless. In addition, users’ experience will be faster and more transparent.

There is no clear date on when the new system will become open to everyone. However, the fact that the signs of this feature in beta versions of the application are evident suggests that it is not far from the official test process. WhatsApp has recently released the iPad application shows that the development tempo has increased. However, comprehensive tests need to be completed in order for the user name system to be widely available.

WhatsApp’s step is carefully monitored at a time when privacy is becoming more and more important. In particular, the use of user name between new users and young audience can be expected to become more common. Nevertheless, the transition process for users who do not easily change their habits can spread over time. Therefore, it will be decisive in the process of adopting the user name system.

The user name feature aims to provide a safer and more personal data sharing on WhatsApp. With this change, users will more control their digital identities. However, questions such as how the system will be implemented, whether there will be technical disruptions will only find answers when the feature is fully presented.
