One of the favorite activities of the pandemic period quarantines was getting together with friends online and watching the same things. With the pandemic left behind, this turned into an event that remained in the dusty pages of the past. For this reason, Twitch is discontinuing the Watch Party feature it offers with Prime Video integration.

At this point, it is worth remembering that Twitch is also under the umbrella of Amazon. According to the information provided by the broadcast platform, this feature will be unplugged as of April 2. Twitch started testing this feature as part of a closed beta process in 2019 and made it available to all broadcasters in the USA shortly after the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Watch parties helped people maintain social connections at the time. Watch parties provided serious psychological support, especially for those who spent the pandemic period alone at home. However, with the end of the pandemic period, the need for such features has disappeared.

Twitch chose to divert resources to other features instead of Prime Video Watch Party

Twitch’s announcement stated that the use of the feature on its platform has “decreased over the years.” Instead of looking for ways to make this feature remarkable again, the company decided to transfer its resources to other features.
