Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, announced that social media platform Threads is testing a new feature that allows the creation of custom streams for specific profiles or topics. This innovation aims to enable users to follow content more regularly according to their interests. For example, a football fan can create a stream consisting only of football content, while tech enthusiasts can create a space focused solely on technological developments.
Although this feature is similar to the special streaming feature announced by Bluesky last year, Threads’ approach stands out with its simplicity and ease of use. To create a custom stream, all users need to do is search for a topic and select the “create new stream” option by clicking on the ellipsis icon in the search results. Additionally, specific profiles can also be added to these custom streams. To do this, simply tap the three-dot icon at the top of the profiles and select the “add to stream” option.
How do Threads’ Custom Streams work?
According to Threads spokesman Alec Booker, custom feeds bring together posts from added profiles and search results of the selected topic in reverse chronological order. Currently, this feature is being tested by a limited group of users around the world. However, it is planned to be offered to a wider user base in the coming period.
Although Threads aims to provide a user-friendly experience, it is not currently possible to set these custom streams as the default view. Still, this move by Threads shows that it is responding to users’ increasing demands for personalization.
This step by Meta also reveals that the competition between social media platforms is increasingly intense. On the other hand, Threads manager Adam Mosseri stated that the platform reached 15 million new users within a month. While this indicates the growth potential of the platform, it is still unclear whether this growth will be sustainable.
Threads is still closed in Turkey
Despite these innovations, Threads’ reach in Turkey is still limited. As you may remember, the platform was closed for use in Turkey at the end of last April. This also prevents local users from accessing the new features offered by Threads. It is currently unknown whether the platform will be reactivated in Turkey.
