Threads, Meta’s text-based social media platform, received 15 million new user registrations in November, significantly increasing its total number of users. Adam Mosseri, the head of the platform, emphasized this growth and stated that Threads continues to gain more than one million new users daily.
At a time when Bluesky’s total number of users exceeded 15 million, it is noteworthy that Threads gained the same number of new users only in November. This shows that Threads has strengthened its competitive position in the social media space.
Mosseri announced that they made some changes to improve the user experience of Threads. Instead of automatically moving their Instagram follow lists to Threads, new users now prefer to create a new follow network on the platform. This approach aims to provide users with a more unique and personalized experience on Threads.
Additionally, the idea of developing a direct messaging system specific to Threads is also on the agenda. This feature can make users feel more interactive and connected on the platform.
Meta also has plans to integrate ads into the Threads platform. However, it remains unclear how this step will be received among users. The inclusion of ads on the platform may lead to discussions about how it will affect the user experience.
Bluesky continues to attract the attention of users with its decentralized structure. The platform, which gained more than 700 thousand new users in the last week, reached 14.5 million users in total. Bluesky, which attracted great attention especially from the USA, rose to second place in the list of the most popular social media applications in Apple’s US App Store.
Bluesky’s rapid rise shows that social media users tend to turn to different alternatives. Offering a freer sharing environment thanks to its decentralized structure, Bluesky attracts users who want to avoid centralized platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk.
Threads will start showing ads soon
Threads’ rapid growth and steps to improve user experience continue to strengthen the platform’s position in the social media space. However, how planned changes such as advertising integration will be received by users stands out as an important factor that will affect the future success of the platform. At this point, it is worth remembering that Threads is not currently accessible in Turkey.
