Threads introduces new features to highlight podcast content

Threads, the text-based social media platform under the umbrella of Meta, has launched new tools for content creators, allowing audio content to be more visible on the platform. Thanks to the new features developed, podcast publishers will now be able to add links to their programs to their biography pages, and shares made through these links will be supported with audio previews. These previews are not limited to publishers’ posts; Users will also be able to see the same audio previews when they share links to their favorite shows.

This new functionality initially only works with podcasts on Spotify. According to the statement made by Threads manager Connor Hayes on the platform, Apple Podcasts support will also be offered in the future. The feature has started to be gradually rolled out starting today and is expected to become active for all users in the coming weeks.

Threads aims to increase audio content engagement

This step by Threads encourages more audio content to be included on the platform, while also expanding promotional opportunities for podcasters. Thanks to the audio preview feature, content creators will be able to aim to increase engagement rates by providing a content sample directly to potential listeners. In this context, Threads has taken its first concrete steps towards supporting multimedia experiences by going beyond visual or written content.

However, it is known that Threads users’ click-through rates on external links have been quite low so far. This situation raises some questions about how effective the new features will be in practice. Although voice preview support is an important step to attract users’ attention, it will become clear in the future whether it will create a serious change in link clicking behavior.

The increasing availability of podcasts on platforms meets the need for content creators to gain visibility in different media. This new update to Threads has the potential to increase interaction between social media and audio broadcasting. However, preview support is limited only to Spotify, which currently excludes publishers who produce content on other platforms. With Apple Podcasts support coming soon, the feature will be able to appeal to a wider user base.

This new step towards podcast promotion stands out as a reflection of Threads’ effort to increase the diversity of content on the platform. Especially in a period when social media users’ content consumption habits are shifting to visual and audio formats, such integrated features can make the user experience richer. By integrating platforms other than Spotify, the feature can reach a much more inclusive structure.
