Threads integrates Bluesky’s “Starter Packs” feature into its platform

Meta’s social media platform Threads is preparing to incorporate Bluesky’s ‘Starter Packs’ feature in order to enrich the user experience. This step especially aims to help new users adapt to the platform faster and easily access content that suits their interests.

On Bluesky, ‘Starter Packs’ consist of follow-up lists built around specific themes. These lists allow users to collectively follow accounts related to topics they are interested in. For example, a package created for tech enthusiasts might include accounts from relevant writers and editors. In this way, when users join the platform, they can have a stream full of content that suits their interests.

This feature, which Threads plans to integrate, will allow users to follow lists created around certain topics or communities. For example, a list like “NBA Threads” will bring together accounts that will be of interest to basketball fans. Such lists will help users make more meaningful connections on the platform.

Bluesky’s ‘Starter Packs’ feature has played an important role in the growth of the platform. There’s even a search database with over 37000 listings created by users. These lists can be shared directly in users’ feeds, increasing community engagement. However, it is not yet clear whether Threads will offer this feature in the same context.

Bluesky responded to Threads’ move in a humorous way and shared, “If this application will continue to copy our features, it would make more sense for you to join Bluesky.” This shows how intense the competition between social media platforms has become.

Competition between Threads and Bluesky is increasing

Recently, the competition between Threads and Bluesky has been increasing. Bluesky rapidly increased its number of users, reaching 20 million active users. Especially users who left the X (formerly Twitter) platform are looking for new alternatives. Threads is trying to integrate Bluesky’s popular features into its platform to attract these users.

Threads has previously introduced features such as customizable flows and prioritizing posts of followed accounts. These steps aim to ensure that users have a more personalized experience on the platform. However, it will become clear over time how successful this strategy will be and which platform users will prefer.
