Although Threads has been closed from Türkiye for more than a year, Meta continues to provide new functions to the platform. Finally, the secret word filter, which has become independent of Instagram, has gained a customizable structure in the Threads application. In addition, time limit for temporary filtering was added to the users’ content experience in line with their own preferences.
Thanks to the newly added setting, Threads users can only block the words, expressions or emojis they have identified in this platform. In the previous period, the filtering process was jointly with Instagram and the same words were silent on both platforms. Now this has changed, and Threads can manage its flows separately. The blocked content is not only in the home -page flow; In search results, user profiles and comments can be filtered in comments. Thus, a more comprehensive inspection is provided on content visibility. It also provides flexibility that users can edit these settings at any time.
The prominent part of the feature is that it makes it possible to silence words or emojis for a certain period of time, not permanently. Users can identify the desired contents up to 30 days and follow the remaining time. Such temporary filtering, especially newly released series, games or film contents spoileroffers a practical solution for users who want to avoid. These timed filters are not only unique to Threads and currently does not include such an option on Instagram. On the other hand, on the X platform, similar functions have been available for a long time and can be defined as 1 day, 1 week or 30 days. Threads shows that this update offers a more advanced user control system.
Since the filter update does not reach everyone for now, the usage situation may vary.
Instagram President Adam Mosser announced the update with a sharing from his Threads account on June 27th. However, this new filtering option is still not active for all users. It is stated that the feature is gradually delivered to the devices. Despite the current version of the application, the filter option may still not appear in some accounts. In Türkiye, this innovation cannot be tested by local users because the access to Threads continues. However, users who use Threads abroad started to actively experience the feature.
The new feature is not limited to individual content filtering. It is also allowed to enter and filter unwanted expressions of users. At the same time, a more flexible structure is offered for those who want to remain temporarily silent on certain issues. Collective word blocking, especially in online communities in certain periods of the prominent discussions to avoid the use of users who want to avoid. In addition, emoji filtering support is expanding the comprehensive control opportunities of the platform. Filters work in all content areas in the same way provides ease of use.
Threads’ steps to create a separate content experience from Instagram has become more visible with this update. This change on the filter system makes the application’s direction in content control. Although it is not used for the time being due to its access to Türkiye, it is clear that such new features affect the experience of global use. Such features developed by Threads to increase the difference between other social platforms are among the steps that strengthen the independent structure of the application. In line with the developments, the feature is expected to be delivered to more users in the following months.
