The indicator light system is updated in the AirPods Charging box with iOS 26

Apple’s iOS 26 update brings various innovations, especially for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 models. A remarkable change among these innovations is implemented for the AirPods charging box. This change in the beta version aims to show the charging situation more clearly and understandable.

According to a screenshot of the iOS 26 beta 5 version, which is shared by minimal Nerd on the X platform, the indicator lights in the charging box are now reorganized to report the charging status with three different colors. In this new system:

  • Green: Fully charged,
  • Yellow: Charging,
  • Orange: The box itself is charged,

a distinction will be made in the form. However, the fact that the yellow and orange colors are very close to each other makes some question marks about how distinct this distinction will be by users in practice. Currently, Apple’s official support documents only talk about green and amber colors.

On the other hand, Macrumors editor Juli Clover quoted the statements that the charging box will show more clearly in the code structure of iOS 26. In this respect, Apple’s advancing updates are likely to improve this system than user feedback.

With the new notification system, AirPODS users will also send warning notifications regarding the battery status. These notifications include information on when AirPods should be charged or full charge. Thus, it is aimed to improve the user experience.

Although Apple has not yet been finalized whether it will protect this change in the official version of iOS 26, it seems likely to make additional changes before reaching the end user, as it is in the test phase.
