Samsung to simplify home screen with One UI 7

A new screenshot has emerged regarding Samsung’s One UI 7 update, which has been on the rise for a while now. This image offers some clues about the user experience (UX) changes that Samsung will bring with the new software update. It is observed that these changes are particularly inspired by iOS.

Expected innovations in One UI 7

One UI 7 is rumored to be more than just a minor update, with a lot of reorganizations taking place. These include animations and the design of Samsung app icons. Previously leaked screenshots have shown what the Camera and Gallery app icons (and the Camera UI) could look like.

The latest leaked screenshot on X via @chunvn8888 reveals a new “Icon & widget style” settings panel. There are two main options in this panel: “Classic” and “Bold.” The “Classic” style preserves the labels for app icons, while also adding home screen widget labels. This feature is not included in the current One UI 6.1.1 release, which does not include labels for home screen widgets.

On the other hand, in One UI 7, the “Bold” style completely removes labels from both app icons and widgets. This style removes app icon labels while preserving the widget configuration found in the existing One UI 6.

At first glance, this screenshot suggests that Samsung won’t be offering an option to keep the current icon and widget style in the One UI 7 update. There doesn’t appear to be any setting to keep app icon labels, and there are no labels underneath home screen widgets.

However, it should not be ignored that these new styles can offer more. There is no clear information yet on whether there will be additional customization options in other menus or whether the labels will be individually customizable. We will have to wait for the release of One UI 7 or more leaks.

On the other hand, even if we assume that the screenshot is correct, it should not be forgotten that Samsung is still in the development phase. Many things may change during beta tests. However, considering all these details, it can be said that Samsung plans to make more radical changes with One UI 7 and users are eagerly waiting for these changes.

As more information about the One UI 7 update emerges, users will have the opportunity to examine the new features and changes in more detail. Samsung’s efforts to improve the user experience with software updates seem to continue with this update.
