Samsung announced the three-dimensional (3D) sound technology called Eclipsa Audio, which will be used in new television and soundbar models. This technology, which will be offered in a wide range of products from Crystal UHD TVs to Neo QLED 8K TVs, was developed in collaboration with Google. While Samsung has held the title of the world’s largest TV brand for 18 years in a row, it aims to reshape the understanding of home entertainment with its new audio technology.
Eclipsa Audio was developed as a direct competitor to Dolby Atmos and was implemented in partnership with Google, based on the IAMF (Immersive Audio Model and Formats) format within AOM (Alliance for Open Media). This technology offers viewers an immersive spatial audio experience, while allowing content creators to create more dynamic and immersive content by adjusting the position and intensity of the sound.
Samsung officials state that Eclipsa Audio has opened a new era in sound design, especially for directors and content producers. Users will be able to watch Eclipsa Audio supported content with a premium audio experience through YouTube Premium.
Samsung and Google, together with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), are working on a certification program for Eclipsa Audio-supported devices. In this way, they aim to ensure that users get full efficiency from this new technology. On the other hand, content producers can now start uploading their Eclipsa Audio-supported videos to YouTube.
However, it is not yet clear how many film studios and production companies support Eclipsa Audio. However, there are important names behind the IAMF format such as Amazon, Apple, Google, LG, Microsoft, Netflix and Nvidia. This indicates the technology’s potential to gain strong industry-wide adoption.
Taeyong Son, Head of Samsung Visual Displays R&D Team and Executive Vice President, said: “We are proud to lead the industry with the integration of Eclipsa Audio into our 2025 television and soundbar series. “This innovation opens up new possibilities for immersive audio experiences and reinforces our commitment to shaping the future of home entertainment.”
Samsung aims to set a new standard with Eclipsa Audio
This move by Samsung aims to create a new standard in television and audio technologies. Eclipsa Audio aims to offer consumers a superior experience not only in visual but also in auditory terms. It is expected that this technology will be widely used in the future.
