Pocuter introduces Spectra, a user-repairable and customizable smartwatch

Pocuter attracts attention with its new smart watch model Spectra. This device, which is the product of three years of work, differs from other smart watches with its repairability and customizable structure. Spectra is available for pre-order on Kickstarter, and deliveries are planned to begin in July 2025.

The most important feature of Spectra is that it has a repairable structure. In a review by iFixit, it is stated that the device facilitates repairs with its modular design. The motherboard is designed with hinges and access to the battery is provided using spring contacts. Thus, battery replacement problems, which are frequently encountered in small devices, are eliminated in this model. The Pocuter team plans to offer spare parts options so that users can replace every part of the device. It is also stated that the device is assembled with only seven screws.

In addition, Spectra also attracts attention with its technical features. Equipped with the Espressif ESP32-S3 processor, the watch has 8 MB RAM and 32 MB operable flash memory. Features such as an AMOLED screen with a resolution of 368 × 448, fitness tracking and environmental sensors are also available on the device. Moreover, thanks to microSD card support, the storage capacity can be increased up to 512 GB.

What is the price of Pocuter Spectra?

Spectra runs on SpectraOS, a custom JavaScript-based operating system. This operating system offers an interactive debugger, secure application sandboxing, and support for Linux, macOS, and Windows for those who want to develop applications. However, the device does not provide access to Apple or Google’s extensive app stores. Therefore, users who want to take full advantage of Spectra may need to have certain technical knowledge.

The device is available on Kickstarter for a price of $209 for early backers. However, it is stated that the full price will be around 272 dollars. Spectra is Pocuter’s seventh Kickstarter campaign and is considered one of the company’s most ambitious projects.

Pocuter takes a different approach to both repairability and customizability with Spectra. However, it is stated that the device has not only a hackable structure but also an environmentally friendly approach. Aiming to set a new standard in repairability and user freedom in the smartwatch industry, Spectra offers a remarkable option especially for developers and technology enthusiasts.
