Technology accessories manufacturer OWC announced its new USB4 cables for high-speed data transfer and long-distance connection needs at CES 2025. These active optical cables, 3 meters and 4.5 meters long, are offered for sale with a price tag of $ 98.99 and $ 129.99, respectively.
Both cables support data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps, offering performance equivalent to the maximum capacity of the Thunderbolt 4 standard. While the 3-meter model enables power transmission up to 240W, the 4.5-meter version provides charging support up to 60W.
While Intel guarantees Thunderbolt 4 performance for cables up to 2 meters, these new cables from OWC also offer high speed and reliability over longer distances. Although they do not have official Thunderbolt 4 certification, they are compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and 4 devices and can be used with a wide range of devices.
OWC utilizes fiber optic technology to provide this long-distance connection. In this way, higher resistance to electromagnetic interference and signal integrity is achieved compared to traditional copper cables. This approach is reminiscent of the Light Peak project that Intel and Apple initially developed on fiber optic connections.
OWC also introduced the new Thunderbolt 5 hub
Along with the cables, OWC also introduced the new Thunderbolt 5 hub. This hub expands users’ connectivity options by adding three Thunderbolt 5 and one USB-A port through a single port. Supporting 80 Gbps bidirectional data rate, the hub can offer speeds of up to 120 Gbps for applications requiring high bandwidth. It also provides power transmission up to 140W, allowing laptops to be charged quickly and efficiently.
Thunderbolt 5 technology makes it possible to connect multiple high-resolution displays. OWC’s new hub supports up to three 8K displays, providing a flexible and powerful work environment for professional users.
OWC’s new USB4 cables and Thunderbolt 5 Hub can be ordered via the company’s official website. These products offer powerful and affordable solutions for users who require high-speed data transfer and multi-device connectivity.
