OpenAI will announce its search engine a day before Google I/O

OpenAI has been preparing to launch an artificial intelligence-powered search engine for some time. According to a new report, the company aims to overshadow Google by making the announcement of its search engine one day before Google I/O 2024.

Google will host its annual developer conference on Tuesday, May 14, where the company's biggest announcements of the year will be made. At the top of the list of expectations are new details about Google's plans for both AI and Search, including how the two will continue to come together.

But Google may now have to work against one of its biggest AI rivals, which threatens its biggest product, Search. According to Reuters, the announcement of OpenAI's artificial intelligence-supported search engine will be made on Monday, May 13. It is worth noting that there is no confirmation for the date in question yet.

OpenAI will rival both Google and Perplexity

According to Bloomberg's news; OpenAI's search engine is designed to rival Google and Perplexity, an existing AI search product. The report claims that OpenAI's new product will allow users to effectively ask questions to ChatGPT and have the chatbot respond with an answer containing quotes from online sources such as news and blog posts, Wikipedia, and more. It looks like images will also be used when the query requires it.

Multiple sources have stated that has been quietly showing signs of life lately, pointing to OpenAI's plans. As of today, the search function is technically already available to ChatGPT users. However, it is worth remembering that you have to pay for this.
