Responding to Samsung in the race to put screens in home appliances, LG has introduced a new microwave oven equipped with a 27-inch LCD touchscreen and speakers. Part of the LG Signature series, this microwave oven doesn’t just heat food; It also promises to be an entertainment center in your kitchen.
According to LG’s statement, this large screen offers users an “impressive entertainment experience.” On the other hand, when paired with LG’s oven, the microwave oven can show the cooking process of food on the screen, thus eliminating the need for users to lean over and control the oven.
LG announced that it would transition from a hardware-oriented business model to a service-oriented platform model in 2023. In this context, full-screen advertisements began to be displayed on LG’s televisions when not in use. This strategy of the company aims to position home appliances not only as functional devices but also as platforms that generate constant revenue.
This vision is clearly seen in LG’s next-generation Signature series. Wi-Fi-connected devices in the lineup include the large, clear OLED “Instaview” touchscreen on the refrigerator; Washing machines and dryers have smaller LCD screens. These displays provide local control of devices, as well as access to entertainment content and interaction with LG’s smart home ecosystem.
In the new home appliance series announced by Samsung recently, screen sizes vary from 4.3 inches to 32 inches. It seems that LG has adopted a similar strategy and integrated screens into home devices. However, this means that classic buttons and dials are replaced by more complex and expensive systems.
LG will share details at CES 2025
LG has not yet provided information about the prices of the new Signature series, in which countries it will be available for sale and shipping dates. However, all details are expected to be announced at the CES 2025 technology fair, which will start on January 7 in Las Vegas.
