As the battle for AI dominance heats up, Meta is adding a new feature to Meta AI, the AI chatbot that’s already part of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. While Meta AI already has impressive text capabilities like answering questions, suggesting captions, and keeping conversations going, users can’t currently share or upload photos to Meta AI chat. According to WABetaInfo , there’s a feature in the latest beta version of the WhatsApp Android app that suggests that could change that.
This feature will allow Meta AI to interact with photos shared by users, respond to them, and even edit them.
WhatsApp is testing a new camera button in Meta AI chat, designed to work similarly to the camera button in regular chats. This addition will allow users to manually share photos with Meta AI, a feature that is currently unavailable.
The full scope of this image editing feature remains unclear, leaving one to wonder if the technology will be limited to simple tweaks or if it will lead to a powerful AI-driven photo editing suite. If the feature performs as promised, it could be a highly functional experience.
While this new image sharing feature means Meta will analyze your uploaded photos and scan them for faces, the screenshot includes a disclaimer stating that users will have the option to delete their photos at any time.
WhatsApp to introduce more features based on Meta AI
As of now, the feature is still in development, so it may take some time before it is finally available for everyone. WhatsApp is also currently testing a personalized avatar creation feature that also uses Meta AI.
