LinkedIn is laying off hundreds of employees

LinkedIn has become one of the latest companies to join the ongoing workforce downsizing in the tech sector. According to information provided by Reuters, the company is going through a downsizing of approximately 5 percent of its total number of employees. Considering that LinkedIn has more than 17,500 full-time employees worldwide, it is stated that the number of people to be laid off is around 875. Sources close to the subject state that the decision taken is not directly associated with artificial intelligence investments. Despite this, it seems that the company is carrying out a new restructuring process aimed at increasing operational efficiency.

According to internal company memos shared by Business Insider, LinkedIn CEO Daniel Shapero informed employees that investments in some areas will be reduced. Accordingly, budgets allocated for marketing campaigns, supplier expenses, customer events and underutilized office spaces will be cut. Company management says that resources will be directed to priority areas that provide higher returns. In addition, it is reported that the layoffs include the marketing, engineering and product teams, as well as the Global Business Organization unit.

It is also stated that LinkedIn will close its office in Graz, Austria, as part of the restructuring process. In the statement made by the company spokesperson, it was stated that organizational changes are part of regular business planning and the aim is to transition to a structure that is more suitable for LinkedIn’s future goals. However, detailed information has not yet been shared about the extent of the impact of the office closure on European operations.

LinkedIn focuses on infrastructure investments while reducing costs

In the note sent by CEO Daniel Shapero to employees, attention is drawn to the changing structure of the business world. Shapero states that professionals and companies continue to turn to LinkedIn during transformations in their working lives. Despite this, it is emphasized that the company needs to create a more profitable operating model. The management side aims to work with more agile team structures and shift investments to long-term areas, especially infrastructure.

It seems that similar decisions have become common in the technology sector in the last two years. Companies that grew rapidly, especially in the post-pandemic period, turned to restructuring processes due to economic uncertainties and cost pressures. Large technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta also parted ways with thousands of employees at different periods. The decision taken by LinkedIn is also considered as one of the new examples of the industry-wide cost optimization trend.

On the other hand, LinkedIn’s financial performance does not present a weak picture in the short term. According to Microsoft’s latest financial report, LinkedIn’s revenues increased by 12 percent in the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. Despite this, it was recently brought to the fore that Microsoft offered voluntary separation offers to approximately 7 percent of its employees. This shows that technology companies are giving greater priority to keeping operational expenses under control, even if revenue growth continues.

How the layoffs at LinkedIn will affect the company’s product development processes will become clearer in the coming period. In recent years, the platform has focused on artificial intelligence-supported tools, premium subscription features and recruitment solutions. Despite this, it appears that the company is turning to a simpler and efficiency-oriented organizational structure under current economic conditions.
