Is your battery draining quickly after One UI 9? What you need to check on Galaxy phones

If your Galaxy phone has stopped working at night after the One UI 9 update, the first thing you should do is to close all settings or reset the device. It is more useful to first check which application consumes how much battery, how the phone behaves in standby and the status of the battery. This makes it easier to understand whether you really have a software problem or whether the terms of use have changed.

The complaints shared by Galaxy S24 and S25 users in recent days have brought this question to the agenda again. In the user notifications compiled by Webtekno, short screen times and increased consumption during waiting are mentioned. A Galaxy S25 Ultra owner in Samsung’s US community also reported a similar situation after One UI 9. However, these do not show that the same error exists on all devices. The steps below provide a check sequence based on Samsung’s support documentation.

Check the phone’s own battery data first

Open the Battery section in the Settings app and tap the battery graph. Then review the usage details of the listed apps. This control recommended by Samsung allows you to see which applications stand out in consumption. Menu names may vary depending on the phone model and software version.

Don’t decide here just by looking at the app at the top of the list. If you’ve been watching videos all day, it’s no surprise that the video app stands out. On the other hand, if an application you use very little shows significant consumption, it is worth investigating. Also consider separately the time the screen is on and the total time after unplugging it. Three hours of screen time does not mean that the phone is completely drained in three hours.

You can create a small record for yourself for comparison. Note the battery percentage in the morning, the level in the evening, the featured applications and whether you mainly used Wi-Fi or mobile data during the day. The behavior of your own phone on similar days will be more useful to you than another user’s screenshot.

Evaluate the post-update together with the terms of use

In its support statement for previous Android versions, Samsung states that battery optimization can learn usage habits after the operating system upgrade. This general statement is not a confirmed bug detection for One UI 9 or a guarantee of a fix in a certain period of time. Therefore, it is useful to record the change on the first day, but it would not be right to attribute the ongoing problem to constant updates.

Moreover, the same phone may not produce the same results when used over Wi-Fi at home and when left connected to the mobile network outside throughout the day. Samsung’s battery optimization document lists weak signal, high screen brightness, long screen timeout, intensive applications and location services as factors that increase consumption. If you went on a trip or used navigation more after the update, take that into account as well.

Check for pending updates

Turn on the Download and install option from the Software update section in Settings. Then check for updates of the apps you use in their respective stores. Samsung recommends keeping the system and applications up to date before diagnosing. Just because you see a pending package doesn’t necessarily mean it fixes the battery issue. See also the description of the package.

Afterwards you can restart the phone. Options include running the built-in maintenance tool via Settings, Device maintenance and Optimize now. Rather than making multiple changes in a row, monitor your usage after each step. This way, you can more easily track which changes might be effective if consumption decreases.

Selectively apply background restrictions

You can sleep the apps you rarely use in the Settings, Battery and Background usage limits section. Applications in the deep sleep option do not run in the background unless you open them. In turn, notifications and content refreshes may be delayed. Therefore, do not collectively restrict applications where you expect constant notifications for messaging or work.

Your goal is not to render the phone dysfunctional, but to find unnecessary consumption. If you stop receiving important notifications after the change, remove the application from the relevant sleep list and check again. Evaluate the improvement in battery usage under the same usage conditions.

Check battery status with Samsung Members

According to Samsung’s current battery check instructions, open the Samsung Members application and enter the Support section. Under Phone diagnostics, tap Get Started, then tap Battery status. On the results screen, you can see a Normal, Poor or Poor rating.

The normal result does not mean that all consumption problems you have experienced have disappeared. If you get a Weak or Bad result, evaluate the battery condition with the support team. This check on battery health and the usage graph showing which application consumes too much energy answer different questions. It is more meaningful to examine the two together.

If the problem persists, add details to the report

Use the feedback or bug report option from the Support section of Samsung Members. Include the phone model, installed software version, when the problem started, and battery chart. Check that your personal notifications are not visible in the screenshots. Instead of saying “My battery runs out quickly”, writing down whether the consumption increases while waiting or in a specific application makes it easier to analyze.

If there are unexpected shutdowns or ongoing significant performance loss, Samsung recommends an authorized service inspection. Do not consider resetting to factory settings as the first solution. If the support team recommends such an action, first verify the restoreable backup of your photos, files, and app data.
