While expanding its affordable phone options, Honor officially announced the Play 20C model, which carries a second touch screen on the back. The phone, which has largely the same hardware as the Honor X5ds that the company introduced this week, seems to be one of the models that will be offered under different names in different markets. The highlight of Play 20C is the 2-inch touch screen located right next to the 50 megapixel main camera. On the main screen side, there is an IPS LCD panel with a size of 6.78 inches, HD + resolution and 90 Hz refresh rate. The fact that most of the hardware features are the same as the X5ds suggests that the Play 20C is the version of the model in question for global markets.
There is a small difference between the two phones on the processor side. While Unisoc T615 processor is used in the version of Honor Play 20C with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, Unisoc T610 is preferred for other memory and storage options. Apart from this distinction, there is no significant change in the basic technical features of the device. Both chipsets are among the solutions designed for daily use, social media, messaging and basic applications in the entry and lower middle segment. Therefore, Play 20C appears to be a phone aimed at users who focus on basic needs and long battery usage rather than high performance.
The second screen stands out among the Honor Play 20C features
The 2-inch touch screen on the back of the phone is the main factor that distinguishes Play 20C from many models in the same price class. Positioning this panel next to the camera module offers a structure that allows some basic information to be displayed or certain controls to be made without opening the main screen. Since Honor does not provide detailed information about the software functions of this screen, it is not clear yet how wide its usage areas are. Despite this, it seems possible that the second screen will provide a helpful interface, especially for notification control, time and similar brief information, or for using the camera. While this feature gives a more visually distinctive design to an entry-level phone, the actual usage value will be determined by the options Honor offers on the software side.
There is a 50 megapixel main camera on the back. Honor does not share a detailed technical list regarding other camera components, and therefore the device’s imaging system focuses largely on the main camera. The 6.78-inch IPS LCD panel on the front offers a 90 Hz refresh rate, which can provide smoother use in menus and supported applications compared to standard 60 Hz screens. On the other hand, HD + resolution may be more limited in sharpness for a screen of this size than Full HD + panels. This choice can be considered as one of the balances aimed at keeping the price and energy consumption of the device low.
Honor Play 20C has a 6000 mAh battery and the phone offers 15W charging support. High battery capacity, especially Unisoc processors focusing on low power consumption, and HD + screen create a combination that can provide long battery life in daily use. On the other hand, 15W charging power is one of the points where the phone is weaker, considering the models that offer much higher fast charging support today. It may therefore take a relatively long time for the large capacity battery to be fully charged. However, for users who prioritize needing a plug socket less frequently, battery capacity may be one of the distinct advantages of the Play 20C.
Play 20C’s color options include Forest Green, Sunrise Gold and Midnight Black. The Sunrise Gold option is one of the visual differences between the two models, as it is not available on the Honor X5ds, which is largely the same in terms of hardware. The phone is also listed on Honor’s global website. In addition, the version of the device with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage is offered for sale in Nigeria for 149,900 Nigerian naira (approximately 5,555 TL).
